The unit will need power supply. There is a power socket just below where the unit is to be installed. Is it ever acceptable practice to tap the power from a socket and run a cable up the wall from the socket to the indoor unit for power supply?

Can a 2 kW power unit be connected to a switch board?
Just get quotes until someone will do it but in reality you won't be saving much. a small unit (2KW or smaller) might be connected to existing power points, providing it is not powering every outlet in the house. a 8KW unit will (or should) have it's own circuit to the switch board.
