Can a polymer multilayer film reduce the weight of PV modules?
We have successfully designed and prepared a polymer multilayer film (PMF) with UV-resistance & High transmittance which could provide a low-cost, simple but effective way to address the weight issue of PV modules.
How much weight can a polymer multilayer module reduce?
The weight of our designed module can be reduced by 85.8%. The polymer multilayer film shows excellent UV-resistance and high optical transparency. The materials and multiple co-extrusion processes are suitable for large-scale manufacturing.
What is the UV-resistance of a multilayer optical film?
In order to verify the UV-resistance characteristics of the multilayer optical film, the PMF was subjected to an aging test with 340 nm UV rays. The UV-resistance characteristics were measured by the yellowing value Δb.
How a PV module can be used as a front cover layer?
The schematic diagram of material stacking of the manufactured PV module and light path for sunlight is shown in Fig. 9 a. The PMF we designed only reflects the UV band, while other bands that respond to the c-Si PV cell are transmitted. This optical performance makes it possible to be used as a front cover layer of PV modules.
Is PMF a good cover layer for solar panels?
A lightweight solar module with a PCE of 20.37% was fabricated by using the PMF as front cover layer. Compared with conventional PV glass as a cover layer, the weight of our designed modules can be greatly reduced by 85%. The photo aging resistance property of the PMF was verified to be suitable for outdoor long-term deployment.
How does a polymer multilayer film reflect UV light?
By adjusting the periodic structure of the material layers and the thickness of layers, the polymer multilayer film (PMF) only reflects UV light band, while other wavelength bands that respond to the c-Si cell are transmitted.
